THE RITTER STORY BEGINS IN A TOWMN CALLED ROBBINS WHICH WAS A RENAME BY THE TOWN PEOPLE IN 1943
JORDAN B RITTER found and fell in love with NORA LEE RITTER. They would go on to live in Robbins N.C.. Poppa Jordan had a pond put on his land and BUILT A PLANKING MACHINE AND PUT IT ON tripods so he could cut timber to build his house with raw timber with a porch around two sides, with a well on the porch of the house, about 15oo sq feet with a front door facing the pond from hand to build a house, it was made out of a Lawn mower engine and other parts to cut timber into planks, from there he built a house. on his land he grew tobacco in a smoke house and he had corn fields. Poppa Jordan also had an awesome vegetable garden, there was apple trees, and he grew string beans. Poppa grew all the vegetables. He built a two tier barn out of logs. He kept mules, and a host of other animals. He built a chicken coupe with many many chicks that hatched eggs around the clock. He had storage cellar built in the ground where he dried his own corn. They would go on to have 12 children.
Momma Nora cooked all of the meals around the clock, stewed tomatoes, all vegetables was put in mason jars and she was in charge of it. they cured bacon and ham. the porch was a place that kept cured meat so she wouldn't have to go all the way to the shed, there was a well on the screened in porch for fresh water. Drop the bucket down pull it up and some say that was the coldest best tasting water ever. In the mornings red eye gravy, eggs, Cured hame, homemade can apples from the mason jar, & grits, and many many can preserved, and the popular Bisquits. was a typical breakfast at the Ritter home. In the evening there was fried chicken to perfection, Momma more spent a lot of time sterilizing mason jars and preserving and canning, for shelving.
They would go on the start family reunions which will go on for 73 years.
